Introduction
Hello, and welcome to the Veterans Health Library, your source for health information that was designed for Veterans and reviewed by VA clinical experts. This web tour will show you how to use this valuable new resource to take control of your health. You can view the entire Veterans Health Library Home Page at once, or go right to a specific topic using the menu on the left. Let's get started.

Home Page
This is the Veterans Health Library home page. From here, all the information and tools you need to help you manage your health are within easy reach.

You can return to this page at any time by clicking on the "Veterans Health Library Home" tab. You may want to bookmark this link. The "Home" button and logos at the top of the page will take you away from the library.

Now let's explore the library, starting with content featured on the center of the home page.

Featured Content
The first thing you're likely to see is the "Featured Articles" section, which is regularly updated with new topics.

Right below that, you'll see a "Featured Video." The full video library includes hundreds of topics in a variety of health categories.

The Veterans Health Library home page also features topics from specific sections of the site.

The "Living With" section gives you and your family information and tools to manage a chronic condition.

Let's take "Asthma," for instance. Here you can find information about "Understanding Asthma," "Managing Asthma" and "Your Asthma Action Plan." On the right you'll find multimedia content, including videos, Go-to-Guides online workbooks and additional health sheets.

Let's take a closer look at Go-to-Guides and a few of the unique features.

You can hear the text read out loud, watch a video, take quizzes, and print material for future reference or to share with family members.

Next on the Veterans Health Library home page comes the "Living Well" section, where you'll find information and advice on ways to take charge of your health. For example, "Be Involved in Your Health Care" brings up a list of resources to help you prepare for a health care visit and work with your health care team to develop a treatment plan that's right for you.

The library also has a large section on tests and treatments.

Browse topics alphabetically or search by keyword.

If you don't know the name of a test, you can still find what you need using the categories in the left-hand navigation. For example, if you know you need a test for a heart problem, click the "Heart and Blood Vessel Problems" link.

Right-Hand Navigation
The right-hand side of the Veterans Health Library home page includes links to Veteran-specific health information resources created by the VA. These include "Healthy Living Messages," "Posttraumatic Stress Disorder," "Combat-Related Brain Injury," and many others.

Left-Hand Navigation
You'll find the main navigation for the Veterans Health Library on the left-hand side. Let's explore a few other areas.

The Veterans Health Library includes over 1,500 health sheets and more than 150 videos on diseases and conditions.

Each topic area link leads to an A-to-Z listing of titles.

There's also over 2,000 pages about medications.

In addition to an A-to-Z encyclopedia, you can search for generic or brand name medications by name.

All drug information titles answer these eight questions: What is the medication? How should you use the medication? What are the possible side effects? What may interact with the medicine? What should you do if you miss a dose? Where should you store the medicine? What should you tell the doctor before starting the medicine? What should you watch for while taking this drug?

Veterans and their caregivers have a section dedicated to rehabilitation and physical therapy.

This list of titles includes information on "Preparing the Home" and "Hiring a Personal Assistant" to help Veterans and caregivers prepare for rehabilitation after a spinal cord injury.

The "Mental Health Library" provides a great deal of information on mental health issues, including posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse and mental health recovery. Going deeper into the site, you can find information such as the cause, symptoms and next steps.

You'll find multimedia tools under the "Additional Resources" section.

Let's look at the "Online Guides." These digital booklets provide more in-depth information on a health topic.

This one includes information about when a pacemaker is needed, how it works, how it is implanted and what it's like living with a pacemaker. Use the controls to turn pages, print, or search for keywords.

To view the Veterans Health Library in Spanish, simply click on the "En Español" tab.

Search
Most of the time, you'll probably visit the Veterans Health Library with a specific issue in mind. That's why we created an easy-to-use search function. Two search bars on every page return results specifically from the Veterans Health Library.

A third search box...in the top navigation area...searches the entire VA website.

Conclusion
Thank you for taking the time to explore the new Veterans Health Library. Now that you have seen everything this valuable website offers, we invite you and your family to explore it on your own. Use the direct link or visit from within My HealtheVet often to take charge of your health and well-being. Happy exploring!
